Welcome to the World Languages Department
Welcome to the World Languages Department
The increasing interdependence of nations and the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of California make it imperative that students develop communication skills in a second language. The World Language Department at Aragon provides students with the skills needed to cooperate and compete economically and politically in our multi-cultural society.
World Language courses at Aragon are aligned with the National World Readiness Standards for Language Learning, formulated by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages*. By focusing on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages' newly-revised Can Do Statements for communication and intercultural reflection, our students develop proficiency in the presentational, interpersonal, and interpretive modes of communication on a daily basis. Authentic resources and cultural knowledge are infused into every thematic unit of instruction, helping students to become globally competent citizens that are inspired to understand language development, embrace other cultures, and participate within multilingual communities at home and around the world.
Students are required to complete 10 credits (1 year) for graduation. All language courses meet the University of California and California State University “e” requirement.
*Please note: The California State Standards for World Languages are currently being revised for a 2020 release. Our department will look forward to embracing these standards along with the continuous commitment to American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages's Standards and Mission.
