Counseling Department's Mission and Vision Statements
MISSION
The mission of the Aragon High School Counseling Department is to have students reflect and build on their academic, college/career, social-emotional, and post-secondary goals during their high school experience. We use the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) national model as a guiding framework.
Through individualized support, a multi-tiered curriculum, and ongoing professional development AHS counselors strive to empower and inspire students. Our approach includes informed practices to challenge students to reach their potential while being balanced and having reasonable expectations for themselves.
AHS school counselors, with the collaboration of school personnel, community members, and wellness counselors, are continually reflecting and assessing data to address the needs of our students and ensure an equitable, inclusive, and student centered counseling program.
VISION
The Aragon High School Counseling Department's vision is that ALL students leave AHS with the ability, knowledge, and confidence to have a positive impact within their community. Through the culmination of the comprehensive counseling program, students will have effective resources to build and connect with others while prioritizing a healthy life balance.
Our students will be prepared to take on an ever-changing world with resilience and curiosity while being open to meaningful self-growth and a passion for lifelong learning.
Counseling at Aragon
At Aragon we offer our a variety of resources to support the academic, behavioral, social and emotional growth of all students.
Our Counseling Office team includes School Counselors and Academic Advisors. These counselors serve as the primary contact for the majority of our students and parents, and assist with the course selection process, college applications, graduation support, and so much more. Our School Counselors also serve as the main contact point for any student needs or concerns.
The College and Career Center serves as a primary contact location for students looking for information on a variety of colleges, scholarship opportunities, volunteerism, internships, and job shadows. Students can also get work permits in the College and Career Center.
The Wellness Counseling Program at Aragon began in the Fall of 2016 and follows a School-Based Mental Health model. We have four full-time Wellness Counselors allowing our students in our General and Special Education programs with a variety of supports, including drop-in sessions, 1:1 sessions, and group sessions, depending on the student needs. We follow a short-term school-based mental heath model, which allows for brief interventions; students requiring long-term care will be referred to outside services when possible.
