October 4, 2022
Happy October! We are well into the school year, and students have settled into a solid routine. Our counselors have just completed their Senior Class Presentations and are getting ready for the upcoming college application season.
We are now in the midst of a few celebrations that include many of our students - please join me as we celebrate with them!
September 15-October 15: National Hispanic Heritage Month. This month was established to pay tribute to the generations of Latino/Latina/LatinX Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Check out the Library of Congress site devoted to this month - there are some amazing events, videos, and images collected here!
October 1-31: LGBTQ+ History Month. In alignment with our district - and in solidarity and support of our Aragon staff and students - we raised the Progress Pride flag yesterday in celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month. This flag will fly on campus just under our national and state flags on the flag pole in Center Court. For information on this flag and supports that are available for our students across the gender and sexuality spectrums, please see this slide deck curated by our very own Mr. Vince Bravo.
October 4-5: Yom Kippur. Staff was reminded of this high holy day and will work with students who miss school in observance of Yom Kippur. Make-ups will take place over a reasonable time period, as we understand that students observing this holiday will be engaged from sunset this evening through sunset tomorrow evening. Wishing all of our students and families of the Jewish faith an easy fast and Good Yuntif.
Changes in Free Student Entrance to Football & Basketball Games. In mid-September, several schools across the district noted an increase in the number of behavioral issues occurring at our athletic events involving students who did not attend either of the schools participating in the sporting event. Please be advised that going forward, Aragon students will have free entry to athletic events hosted by district schools ONLY when Aragon is playing - they can access this by showing their current year school ID (the physical card - not a photo of it). Students wishing to attend non-Aragon games will need to pay for entry: $4 with a student ID card, $8 without (the cost of general admission).
Spooky Season Spirit Week: Students and staff are encouraged to participate in our Spirit Week Dress Up Days!
