AHS

Aragon High School has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for their outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. Aragon High School’s Music Program has received this designation for eight consecutive years.

Aragon was also named one of only 87 schools to receive a SupportMusic Merit Award (SMMA) from The NAMM Foundation! The SMMA Award recognizes individual schools (public, private, parochial, or charter) for their support and commitment to music education. It is a "school-only" distinction awarded as part of the Best Communities for Music Education program.

The Music Department includes teachers John Chen, Kevin Gallagher, Karen Chan and Choir Pianist Manu Petaia.

Aragon Robotics Team Member George Tao was recently recognized as a First Robotics Competition (FRC) Dean’s List Finalist at the San Francisco Regional Competition March 21-23. George was one of two students, out of 41 competing teams, who was selected as a finalist.

In FRC, the Dean's List Award is a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding student leaders who demonstrate leadership, dedication, and passion for FIRST and robotics. Being selected as a Dean's List finalist is a significant achievement, as it indicates a student's potential as a future leader in the FIRST community.

The San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) recently announced that several SMUHSD affiliated groups and students were recognized at the Climate Ready Schools Symposium on April 30.

Aragon High’s Brandon Lin was also recognized as a Standout Award Winner for his ReCap Project. The ReCap Project takes clean syringe needle caps and other clean small medical plastic waste and process them into useful products such as clipboards.

And the San Mateo County Youth Commission's Environmental Justice Subcommittee (which includes AHS students) was recognized for their plastic waste reduction project. This group of students has been advocating for compostable or reusable food ware since the beginning of the school year. They have created a petition, hosted waste-awareness events, and presented at the April 25 SMUHSD Board meeting. Aragon students Matthew Lau and Zayne Abraham accepted the award on behalf of the Commission.

The SCRS Challenge identifies students, teachers, administrators, and community members who are driving environmentally sustainable transformation across their school community’s Campus, Curriculum, and Community engagement programs.
