Welcome
What is AVID?
AVID is an elective class that meets for one period each day. Students learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college attainable. The AVID program is part of nationally recognized program that brings best practices and proven methodologies to students in middle, junior high, and high schools.
The AVID class targets students in the academic middle, who are first-generation or whose parents did not attend college in this country, and who want support in their goal to attend college. They should be individually determined and motivated to complete a rigorous curriculum. In the AVID elective, students are routinely encouraged to enroll in their school’s toughest courses, such as honors or Advanced Placement® classes.
AVID Mission
AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society
AVID students:
- will succeed in the most rigorous curriculum,
- will enter mainstream activities of the school,
- will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and
- will become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
