Intermediate/Advanced Dance
The Intermediate/Advanced Dance curriculum is driven by performance. It is recommended that students have studied dance for 3-5 years to be successful in this class. Students at this more experienced level will be engaged and challenged by studying a range of dance techniques such as Jazz, Ballet, Musical theater, Contemporary, Modern, and Hip Hop. This class will have performance opportunities in the fall musical, school rallies, Winter Orchestra Concert, and other events such as the Aragon Food Festival. Students will learn tools for how to choreograph their own dances throughout the year. As students progress, choreography and combinations will become increasingly complex and challenging. This year of study culminates in the May Dance Showcase, “Til The Break of Dons”. A student centered dance production where student choreographed works have a chance to be performed on stage in the Aragon Theater.
Dance 1
Dance 1 is a class that will focus on the foundations of Hip-hop and other social dance forms. Students will be introduced to African dance as it is the root of American dance styles. This will lead to explorations into Hip-hop, Tap dance, Salsa, and Jazz dance. Later in the year, students will be exposed to Theater Jazz and Ballet. The course will focus on building confidence, coordination, and physical fitness through engaging and fun dance activities. Students will progress from basic steps to more complex routines, developing rhythm, musicality, and their own dance style. The culmination of this year of study happens at the end of the year in the May Dance Showcase, “Til the Break of Dons.”
